Program Note |
I composed Ring out, wild bells for SATB choir in 2016. The words come from a poem of the same title by
Lord Alfred Tennyson. Tennyson’s vivid, lyrical language initially attracted me, and I love that he addresses numerous aspects of the Christmas season throughout his poem. Although “Ring out, wild bells” was initially published in 1850, the many of Tennyson’s words and sentiments remain profoundly relevant today. For my carol, I decided to only set stanzas 1, 2, and 8; however, I encourage you to read and consider the poem in its entirety. |
