Program Note

Above the last cloud (2019) is a spirited work about strength and resilience. The piece opens with sharp violin attacks, which are eventually joined by melodic fragments played by clarinet, harp, and violas. These contrasting musical components—pointillistic, accented notes and lyrical motives—form the core of the work, and return in various guises throughout.
